Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson says his daughter is 'very proud' as she joins WWE
Johnson's daughter Dwayne "The Brick" enters the family business.
Johnson revealed during a virtual conversation with Jimmy Fallon that his daughter — Simone, 18 — had signed a contract with WWE, the professional wrestling organization where he worked before the transition to acting.
"She has signed a contract with WWE, it just blows my mind," Johnson, 48, said. "I mean first of all what an honor my daughter wishes to walk in my footsteps. But, most importantly, it sounds cliché to 'follow in my footsteps,' yet she really wants to carve her own course, which is so essential. He ended up becoming the company's youngest sign in its history.
The star of "Jumanji: The Next Level" clarified that it was a long time coming; because she was just 16, Simone had worked toward it.
"She's been working her a – off. Quietly, playing around under the radar, in the ring, with all the bumps and bruises that go along with pro wrestling, "Johnson explained. "She stayed inside. I'm very, very proud of her.
Not only is Simone following in her father’s footsteps, but her grandfather Rocky Johnson and great-grandfather Peter Maivia also were professional wrestlers. Both were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Rocky died earlier this year at the age of 75.
In February, Simone shared a photo to Instagram, expressing her excitement at joining the WWE.
“To the little girl who fell in love with wrestling & said ‘this will be my life one day’, this is for you,” the caption read. “I’m humbled, grateful & ready to work. Let’s do this.”
The picture featured Simone wearing a grey WWE T-shirt and grinning.
