When it comes to online casino gaming, there are plenty of myths and misconceptions that have developed over the years. This is no doubt due to the new, modern technology that’s constantly evolving making it hard to keep up with how it all really works.

But, fear not, because we’re about to debunk some of the most common myths about casino gaming at both online casino sites and land-based venues.

Read on to find out more.

Myth #1 – the games are rigged

Arguably, one of the most common misconceptions surrounding casino games is that they are rigged or ‘fixed’. This is not true, as, at land-based venues, professional dealers are trained to host the games fairly, as well as having special equipment in place, such as Automatic Card Shufflers (ACS) to ensure that, in card games, each hand is dealt fairly and randomly.

In addition, the likes of Roulette wheels and other gaming equipment are checked regularly to ensure it meets industry standards.

As for online casinos, these are not only regulated and reputable sites, but they also use Random Number Generators (RNGs) to keep the games fair and unpredictable.

Myth #2 – dealers can influence the game’s outcome

Dealers, whilst having the ability to influence a game in ways that will keep you guessing – such as the speed at which they spin the Roulette wheel – will have undergone extensive training to make sure the games are kept unbiased and fair for all that step up to the game table. They also have no interest in whether you win or not, as they get paid a standard wage either way.

Myth #3 – you are due a win

Whether you play online or at a brick-and-mortar venue, you are never due a win. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve played, or how recently a win has or hasn’t occurred, RNG’s have no memory, and dealers cannot influence who wins and who loses.

Therefore, casino games remain purely down to chance.

Myth #4 – card counting is illegal

Whilst many casinos want you to think card counting is illegal, it actually isn’t. Although, it is frowned upon, many venues make it increasingly difficult to do so, as there are usually multiple decks in use.

Online, card counting is practically impossible. And at land-based venues, you could face a ban if you’re caught.

Myth #5 – casinos place the loosest slot machines on the ends of each row

This myth is designed to try and get more customers to play slot machines at land-based venues, but the truth is, no matter where you play, the only thing that impacts how likely you are to win the game, is the volatility and return to player (RTP) rate.

Myth #6 – there are proven systems and methods to help you win

Many believe that adopting methods like the Martingale Strategy when playing games like Roulette will help you win, but this is also a myth. Some strategies require you to play for long periods of time, and therefore have a significant bankroll, in order to see even the tiniest win.

Your best bet is to place your wager on the even-money outside bets, where you’ll have just under a 50% chance of winning in just one spin – but just like any game found on the casino floor, a win is never guaranteed

Myth #7 – online casinos don’t pay

Whilst there may be stories of players winning big and being unable to withdraw their money from their online casino account, this is not true. If you’ve chosen a reputable and regulated casino site to play on, you will always be able to withdraw your money, unless the terms and conditions state otherwise.

This is why it’s important to always read the terms and conditions before placing any wagers or claiming any bonuses offered, as there could be a time limit or withdrawal requirements that you need to consider. Most of the time, though, casino sites will happily pay out winnings that are due, and customer services will be on hand at any time should you need assistance.
