She began her professional journey in 2012 at the age of 19 when she signed a deal with Nashville-based independent record label, Black River Entertainment. Two years later, she released her first studio single under Black River Entertainment entitled “Love Me Like You Mean It” which entered the Country Airplay Chart in October, 2014 making her the first female artiste to attain such milestone since Carrie Underwood in 2006. In November 24, 2014, she released an EP titled “Kelsea Ballerini” her namesake. That same year she received major attention and caught the attention of Country Music Television where she was named as one of the Next Women of Country music.

In 2015, She released her first studio album entitled “the First Time” through Black River Entertainment of which her debut single “Love Me Like You Mean It” entered number one on the Country Airplay chart making her the first solo female country artiste to attain such a milestone after Carrie Underwood did so in 2006 with her “Jesus Take the Wheel”, a feat only ten people held the record for until her entry making her the eleventh. She achieved another record when her second single “Dibs” reached the Country airplay’s number one spot making her the fifth solo female country musician to achieve such back-to-back hits.

In 2016, she made her album’s third single “Peter Pan” available for country radio and it reached number one on both the Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts in September. She carved another niche for herself by being the first female artist to top both country music charts at the same time. She later released the album’s fourth single “Yeah Boy” to Country radio on October 10, 2016.

The subsequent years saw her attaining even greater milestones. For instance, in 2016, she attained number 2 on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Music list. That same year she received two nominations: Female Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year for “Peter Pan”.  In November that year, she released her second studio album titled “Unapologetically” which likewise her previous album attained a major milestone by peaking at number three on the Billboard Top Country Album Chart and number seven on the Billboard 200 album chart.

In 2018, she released a number of songs and did features with a couple of artistes and worked with some other artistes including her ex-husband, Morgan Evans. She served as a coach on the 15^th season of “The Voice” where she coached six contestants. In December that year, her second studio album received nomination for “Best Country Album” at Grammy Awards.

In April 2019, she went on a “Miss Me More Tour” to support her second studio album. She released her song “Better Luck Next Time” after being a guest on “songland”, the NBC competition show.

In the subsequent years, she attained greater feats like in 2021 where she co-hosted the Country Music Awards with Kane Brown and winning the Country Music Television performance award that night and in 2022 where she announced the release of her fourth studio album “Subject to Change”.

On the Valentines day of 2023, she released her short film and EP titled “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat”.

She is the Ex-wife of popular Australian country music singer and songwriter, Morgan Evans. The couple split up after almost 5 years of tying the knot in Cabo San Lucas in Mexico on December 2, 2017. Little is known about the cause of their divorce. She is currently dating American actor Chase Stokes.
