Claire Elizabeth Cottril, popularly known by her stage name, Clairo, is an American singer-songwriter who was born in Atlanta, Georgia where she spent the first 7 years of her life and later relocated to Seattle, Washington. After 3 years in Seattle, she relocated to Carlisle, a small town in Massachusetts before she finally moved back to her hometown of Atlanta. She was born on August 18, 1998 and is currently 25 years old. She bears the Leo zodiac sign and a true embodiment of her birth-sign, she is creative and ambitious. She is also known by the moniker “DJ Baby Benz”.

She gained the passion for music at a very early age and by the time she was 13, she had already started uploading songs on the internet. She rose to fame following the release of her single “Pretty Girl”. She is the daughter of Geoff Cottril and Allie Cottril. Her father is the Chief Marketing Officer at Top Golf whereas her mother is a professional children’s fashion photographer. The singer-songwriter has kept her private life from the public domain, it is unknown whether she is single or not. However, she used to be in a relationship with Jake Passmore, a British musician. She moved around a lot as a kid and as such attended different schools in different cities. However, she obtained her high school diploma at the Concord-Carlisle High School in Carlisle, Massachusetts. After high school, she went on to pursue her tertiary education at the Syracuse University in New York but dropped out after one year to pursue her music career.

She received an offer from MTV for a song for one of their shows but the song was never used.

Fast forward 2017, she gained massive traction following the release of her single “Pretty Girl”, the blew up on social media and it currently has over 96 million views on YouTube.

Following the success of her single and its virality, she received interests from major record labels such as Capitol Records, Columbia. She shunned all these labels and signed with The Fader Label. With her in the limelight and after the success of her hit single “Pretty Girl”, she received massive backlash on social media platforms especially Reddit where they cited her as an “Industry Plant” who gained fame due to her father’s connection, totally discrediting her talent and flair as a singer.

On May 25, 2018, she released her official debut EP under Fader Label titled “Diary 001”. That same month, she went on a North American tour and did a number of shows including a sold-out show in Bowery Ballroom in New York.

In 2019, she performed at Coachella and came out with songs such as “Bags” and on August 2 that same year, she released her first studio album titled “Immunity.

In 2020, in collaboration with a couple of friends from Syracuse University, she formed a band called “Shelly”.

On July 16, 2021, she released her second studio album titled “Sling”. The album featured tracks such as “Blouse”, the first single from the album.

In 2022, she embarked on a couple of tours such as the North American tour and the UK tour

In 2023, she released an EP titled “Live at Electric Lady”. The EP contained new versions of songs from her first two albums.
