Emery rose to prominence as a late-night disc jockey on Nashville’s WSM. During numerous seasons, he would talk with a broad spectrum of country music singers from various periods, and he also utilized a Muppet-like ‘co-host,’ “Shotgun Red.” Emery tried a television return in 2001 with a program called Mornings with Ralph Emery on Nashville Fox station WZTV, but only lasted seven days before being sidelined, first by continued coverage of the September 11 attacks and subsequently by sickness. The program was renamed Tennessee Mornings after its new host, Charlie Chase. Emery created The Nashville Show, a free weekly webcast with Shotgun Red as co-host, in October 2005.
